Supporting Better Breeding Decisions for Alberta Producers
At Rocky View Breeders Association, we understand that investing in high-quality bulls is key to improving your cow-calf operation's genetics, performance, and profitability. We offer a specialized Bull Program through our partnership with Alberta Breeder Finance Inc. (ABFI).
Whether replacing an aging bull, adding to your bulls, or starting, our Bull Program offers flexible financing options with competitive rates and real-world support.

Who’s Eligible?
To qualify for the Bull Program, you must:
Be an active RVBA member
Have at least 20 cows on contract through RVBA
Meet the general ABFI lending criteria

Program Highlights

Finance your purchase of quality herd bulls without tying up your working capital.
✔ Competitive Interest Rate
Loans are offered at ATB Prime + 0.90% — effective rate, subject to market changes.
✔ Two-Year Terms
Bull purchases are financed over two years to align with typical breeding lifecycles.
✔ 20% Security Deposit
This can be covered by pooled equity or ownership in your herd.

Investing in bulls can be a significant outlay, especially with rising costs and increased demand for performance-tested genetics. This program allows you to:
Access better genetics without large upfront costs
Improve your herd’s long-term productivity
Manage cash flow through affordable payments
Stay competitive in the marketplace

As of June 3, 2025, the maximum loan amount per bull is $9,500/head.
This amount may be adjusted depending on market conditions.• Heifers (Open Replacement) to Breed – $3,600/hd
• Bred Heifers – $4,750/hd
• Youthful Bred Cows (under 5 years) – $4,750/hd
• Older Bred Cows (over 5 years) – $3,750/hd (2-year loan)
• Cow-Calf Pairs (under 5 years) – $6,500/pair
• Cow-Calf Pairs (over 5 years) – $5,900/pair (2-year loan)
• Bulls – $9,500/hd -
Loan Fee: 0.5% of the bull’s purchase value (minimum $250), included in the loan
Repayment Dates: Choose June 15 or December 15 for annual payments
Ownership: RVBA will hold a security interest in the bull until the loan is repaid
